We’re here to help.

Email us. Say which course, which hole and what you saw, and attach a screenshot if you can. We read every email and usually reply within a couple of days.

Is it really free? What’s the catch?

Yes, and there’s no catch. Everything in Yardstick is free: every yardage, basic and advanced stats, and the Apple Watch app, with no ads. There’s no subscription, no trial and nothing to unlock. It can be free because we map the courses ourselves, so there’s no course data to pay for, and the app works everything out on your iPhone, so there are no servers to pay for either.

Do I need an account?

No. There’s no account and no sign-in. Open the app and play.

How does it measure?

The middle is the straight-line distance from where you’re standing to the center of the green. Front and back are the near and far edges of the green, on the line from you to its center. Carries are how far it is to reach a water hazard or bunker, and how far to clear it. Distances come from your iPhone’s or Apple Watch’s GPS, which is usually accurate to within a few yards.

Which courses are in it?

13,977 courses in the United States and Canada. Search the list by course name or town. If yours isn’t there, email us its name and town. Front, back and carries show wherever the green is mapped, which is about 9 in 10 US courses. Canadian courses show the middle for now.

A hole or a yardage looks wrong.

Email the course, the hole and the tee you played. Reports from golfers are how the maps get better.

Why do I see a dash instead of front or back?

That green isn’t mapped yet, so the app shows a dash rather than guess. The middle is still live.

Does it work without signal?

The yardages do. They’re worked out on your iPhone, so they keep working with one bar or none. The satellite photo and Fly the hole need a connection. When the photo can’t load, the app says so and the yardage stays live.

The app isn’t showing my location.

Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Yardstick and choose While Using the App. You can still search and start a round with location off, but the yardage won’t follow you.

Does the yardage update with my phone in my pocket?

Yes, during a round, as long as location is allowed while using the app. You’ll see the blue location indicator.

How do I use the Apple Watch app?

Install Yardstick on your watch from the Watch app on your iPhone. When you start a round on your iPhone, the watch starts a golf workout and shows the yardage to the middle, with front and back. Raise your wrist to see it. It needs Apple Watch Series 6 or SE (2nd generation) or later, with watchOS 26.

Is there an Android version?

No. Yardstick is for iPhone, and Apple Watch if you wear one.

Can I ask Siri for the yardage?

Yes, during a round, even with the phone locked. Say “Yardstick yardage” or “How far to the green in Yardstick”, and Siri answers with the middle, front and back. It’s easiest with AirPods in.

Is the handicap official?

No. Yardstick works out an unofficial handicap estimate from your rounds, using the World Handicap System’s published method. It can’t be posted to a handicap service.

Where are my rounds, and how do I delete one?

Your rounds are stored only on your iPhone. To delete one, open it in the Rounds tab and tap Delete round at the bottom. Deleting the app deletes every round, and we can’t bring them back, because we never have them.

Which iPhone do I need?

Any iPhone that runs iOS 26 or later.

What do you collect?

Nothing. See the privacy policy.
